I’ve never been a hand-held bottle kind of girl. I’ve tried and been jealous of folks flying through aid stations while I awkwardly filled a hydration bladder. Plus, I never really got why I would want to carry a five pound weight in one hand, feeling lopsided. These 250 ml silicone soft flasks may change that. Here are my thoughts:
    1) The way my hand fits in the holster, I really didn’t need to do much more than loosely curl my fingers around the bottle top. However, when I was climbing, I did not have to “hold” at all; the bottle stays on my hand and wrist. However, not sure someone with a large hand could carry it the way I can, using the strap as a wrist strap. (I slide my hand up through the ribbon loop and then down and through the two fabric pieces of the holder.) Holding the bottle more traditionally by sliding your hand under the both straps would not work for me. I could not make the strap tight enough.
    2) As the volume in the bottle decreases, it was easy to squish out any air before closing the bottle top. The bottle collapses nicely. In fact, I was able to stuff partially filled bottles under my belt, under the waist band of my shorts, and even stuffed two empty flasks into my running bra to carry them the rest of the way. Easy, easy, easy to carry full, partially filled, or empty – all without the weight and bulk of traditional large, round bottles.
    3) I felt balanced with a 250 ml flask in each hand. It was an easy way to carry half a liter. Obviously, without re-supply options, 500 ml would not be enough for long runs.
    4) These bottles could easily be carried in a pocket if you get tired of holding it. Even full, you could probably carry a bottle under a fairly tight waist band of your shorts.
    5) The bottle has a large bore opening. Bulk gel could easily be carried and squeezed out. I used my bottles with water. I did tend to lose some water when I flipped open the lid. However, a push/pull lid would solve that problem.
    6) This is a great bottle to throw into a larger pack. It could be used to refill a bladder in a shallow water source or as a low-weight option for carrying more fluid.

It’s not UltrAspire’s goal to be all things to all athletes – just to provide extraordinary choices for extraordinary athletes.

  3. Rated 5 out of 5

Super comfortable and easy to use for squishy food like gels or home-made food options. Both good for holding in the hand as well as easily fitting in pockets on a race vest. Works best when prepared in advance of a race/run and can then just be picked up and used very quickly and easily.
