One of the first things you hear when you start trailruning is to buy a headlamp.I did and tried it out in the woods i bought just a medium prized one, used it twice and never ran in the dark again. When I saw the ad in UltraRunning magazine of the UltraSpire Lumen 600, I had an Eureka moment and bought it here.
I always run with a hat and don’t like to have something more on my head. The Lumen 600, enlarge my running days,no rushing or shortcuts to get out of the woods before sundown, i just keep going and it feels safe to run in the dark with the Lumen 600.
I bought a spare rechargeble battery with 3400 mAh in case i cannot reload the original.
At first i needed to get used of my own shadow of my arms sometimes, but it feels so safe and already two runners and a mountain biker stopped me to ask about the lamp. The belt is really comfortable, this is my first UltraSpire device and now I am convinced that the rest of their brand might be as excellent as well. I heard of UltraSpire and saw their vests in the past because of Krissy Moehl. The next month I’ll go to a Spanish Island for running and it includes a Night run, can’t wait to use my Lumen 600.

This light is great for technical trails at night. Headlamps sometimes cause me challenges with depth perception, this light, being closer to the ground really lights up the path and makes it easy to navigate tough terrain. I found the belt comfortable and like the fact that you don’t have to readjust it every time you put it one.

Love it. I do most of my running on the trail, and I hate having a light on my head. Especially during the winter when I have a hat on. It fits well and does not slide around. It does bounce a little as you run. Make sure it is tight, the band will stretch a little for a snug fit. Then quicken your cadence, which is a good thing anyways. Then the light smooths out and you can run with confidence . Being 6’4″ it’s really nice not to have to look down as much as I would with a head lamp. Now I look up just like I would in the day. I would recommend this to anyone .

The Lumen 600 is awesome! I love having a waist level light to increase trail contrast, but do not like carrying a handheld. The Lumen 600 is the perfect solution, as the waist belt keeps the light quite steady under most circumstances, it is light, unobtrusive and you hardly even know you are wearing it. The light casts a warm beam and the 3 settings are all quite effective for various terrain/running speeds, with the max setting at 600 lumens casts an impressive swath of light. Battery life is impressive, quality is excellent and the pockets in the waist belt are a nice touch for a few essentials. My only complaint was that the supplied charging cord is a difficult fit and I had to modify a spare after breaking the original. Once I did that though, it worked great (though charging takes a while). Not a problem, as I usually plan my night runs ahead of time, but would suggest an extra battery for all night ultra events. One of the best lights out there and combined with a good headlamp, I can run trails at night as quick as I would in the day and I am a notoriously lousy night runner.

I’ve used head lamps for years and never really liked them, plus found that they didn’t light the trails as well as something a little closer to the ground. The Lumen 600 is extremely comfy and works perfectly on my night runs in the snow, plus it includes a little carrying space for gels, keys etc. Can’t wait to use it in some 100 mile races, especially since the battery seems to last much longer than other lights with lower levels of brightness (several hours so far per charge without getting close to it dimming but I’ve not done a test for the maximum on one charge yet).

Finally a great way to run in the dark and have fun! The new Lumen 600 is awesome. The benefits are a constant light source on the trail/road ahead. No more tripping in holes or over branches when you look away with a head light on and lose site on whats ahead. The Lumen 600 is discreet and comfortable. I would have loved to use the Lumen 600 for the Marathon des Sables to avoid the night time tunnel vision in the desert from the head light. My most favorite running gear of the year! Brightens the night into day.

    :

I am super pleased with the new Lumen 600. My run commute to work and home again is in primarily in the dark. I had taken to using one of my headlamps around my waist and this light has provided a huge improvement in my visibility.
My night time commute is on the roads and with the light at the second brightest level my visibility on the black asphalt is perfect. I will be using this lamp for the HURT100 mid Jan and am excited to see how it will perform. The depths of the jungle are blacker than black with loads of roots, rocks and mud. Stay tuned for a full post HURT report!
I do prefer to have my waist packs/ lamps ride low on my hips and I have found that I can achieve this by taking the extra length on the adjustable straps and tucking them into my waistband of my tights. Super effective in holding it low on the hips.

    :

Totally awesome! I took my Lumen 600 out on a group run this past weekend where we started in the very early morning. I have not worn anything around my waist for running in years and I am petite (size 0) so I was a bit hesitant to use this light but I was very happy. I was able to cinch the waist belt down enough so there was no bouncing, it stayed tight and it was very comfortable. The brightness blew me and the 18 other people I was with away. I am tired of wearing headlamps that squeeze my head and don’t throw enough light for the speed I like to go. Now I can run through the night in comfort and confidence!

I have started running at night and have been using my headlamp. I am not a fan of headlamps with the bouncing light and pointing the light at passing cars or people. I even tried handhelds and foot lamps to no avail.

My wife suggested a lamp that goes on my waist and would you believe this belt went on sale the day I started looking. I bought it right away and I am not disappointed.

The light is great, I can adjust it on the fly. I see the ground a whole lot better, The pockets are also great.

    Five Star Product

Amazing visibility provided with this light. Very noticeable difference from a simple headlamp. Could be the difference between making it through the night and not. I previously used a homemade version and this is far superior. I also like the water bottle option that can be added. Expensive but worth it.

I am a night runner and do most of my long runs on the Riverbed (which has no lights). I have tried headlamps but find them uncomfortable and they do not put out that much light. This product blows them away. The lighting is so strong, I had to lower to lowest level. I was even stopped by a bicyclist who was wearing a headlamp and he asked me what I was using since it was so much stronger than his. He could not believe it was a running light, he thought I was holding a big flashlight. Give this a try, you will not be disappointed.

I have been testing the Lumen 600 for a while now. Admittedly I am a long time user of a single headlamp at night and was very hesitant to switch to a something new. My first run with the Lumen was a late night 10 mile trail tempo run with a friend. I could not believe the amount of light it put out! I dropped it down to the low setting as we climbed the 2000′ ascent and went deeper into the forest. When we turned to descend I bumped up the power and could literally run full speed without worry. Impressive. The light is very comfortable on the waist and provides a great angle for the light on the trail.

Since the first run I have put in many more training runs in the dark of night and early morning. Each time I have grown to appreciate it more and more. In a couple of weeks I will use it for the Bear 100 and I am excited to get to the night. It will be a huge advantage to be able to see so well. The battery should have no problem lighting the way to the finish, but I will carry 1 spare, just in case. I highly recommend this light as un upgrade from whatever system you are currently using.
