  1. Bree

Love this vest. My go to for 2018. Comfortable and functional with everything I need in a pack . Perfect fot short to longer distance trail races. I love the material and it’s machine washable.

  2. Jordan

I’ve trained in the Spry for years and this is a perfect step up in storage. I can bring anything I need in a very light weight comfortable package.

For the summer of 2018 I wanted the “Magic Unicorn” of hydration packs. I wanted a pack that could be descrete in training but also expand to carry all the essentials in a longer race. The Momentum Race Vest is that “Magic Unicorn”.

The sleek and compact design of the Momentum Race Vest is perfect for longer training runs where you’ll want to carry a large phone, soft flasks, and possibly a quesadilla incase you get really hunger mid run. Yep, you can load the vest up with all that “essential gear” and the vest will not have an ounce of bounce.

The pack really shines when you are pushing the miles and the pace. I used it during the Twisted Fork 64km trail race in June. With just 3 drop bag aid stations for the race, I loaded the pack with two 500ml soft flasks in the front pockets, a 550ml UltraFlask in the rear pockets, and loads of gels. I love that I can access both my flasks and nutrition from the front of the pack! The Max02 Sternum straps keep the vest bounce free and did not restrict my breathing during those nasty climbs in the second half of the race.

Hard to pick a favorite but I think it’s the Momentum. Up to now, I have loved, loved, loved my Alpha Pack- and still do. But the Momentum has some added features while retaining some of the best of Alpha. Plus, it feels smaller on my frame- which is a good thing!

The vest is a true vest; no side straps to wrangle with. The fabric is light and breezy mesh. The two rear pockets hold bottles (or anything else you want). Today a 550 flask rode back there. No bounce at all and very comfortable. Later on in the run, I put one of the flasks in the front and left one in the back. My phone was in the other front pocket. Still felt very balanced. I was impressed.

I have previously used the softflasks with straws in the front. Equally terrific ride.

There are also two stretchy snack pockets on the side. Just the right size for gels, bars, baggies of food etc. THe back zip pocket keeps whatever is in there secure and safe, and the straps for poles could also be used to stack a jacket.

This an exceptionally well-designed vest. Not only does it come with the functionality that you except from UltrAspire products but the fit is perfect – even heavily loaded it rides very lightweight. No straps to tug, tuck or manage. The interchangeability of use between the rear holsters and front main pockets gives you many, many loading options.

The only drawback (and it isn’t really one as this is a lightweight model after all) is that you cannot carry a bladder if you wanted to .

    A superior product overall!!

  6. Aaron

Perfect vest. This is the first race vest I’ve ever used, but I can’t find any reason to try another one. The vest is light and comfortable and everything is easily accessible on the go. FIts everything I need for longer runs without being cumbersome.

  7. Nolan Blanco

The Momentum vest is an incredible offering from UltrAspire. It is a piece of gear that is hard to leave at home when going for any length run. It can be a minimalist vest with plenty of options to store your phone, a soft flask, Ultraflask or Human 20 bottle and nutrition. And if you are a packrat, there are four huge pockets, two in the front and two in the back, that you can pack it down with enough water and food to be self sufficient on those longer days when training for an ultramarathon. With two Human 20 2.0 bottles in the back and food in the front, I get ZERO bounce! And it still has room for a light weight shell for those “just in case” moments. If you need versatility… the Momentum is a great choice!!

  8. Barry Tonkin

This vest is the business. From the first second I tried it on you could just feel the thought that went into creating it.

The minimalism of the vest is incredible considering how much you can fit into it, and how versatile it can be.

Zero bottle bounce and the tight fit with out feeling constricting make it a dream to run in.

From training runs to ultras this vest just ticks all the boxes.

  9. Alexander Humenetskyj

This vest is perfect for race day. My Momentum holds all I need and then some (be sure to watch the video to see just how much you can carry). It’s a race day must have. I also like that it has 4 bottle holders– perfect for 20 mile long runs. Pleasantly surprised with its durability, fit, and comfort. Hugs you in all the right places. Zero bounce. Well done, UltrAspire!

I was in the market for a vest option that was lower volume then the Zygos 2.0 but more volume then the Speedgoat waist belt. Then this year UltrAspire enters the Momentum into their vest ranks. Since it came out I had my eye on it waiting for reviews or a video to give a better visual on what the product looked like or performed liked. (Beyond the photo’s provided that is.) When I finally was able to have the product in hand I was excited at how lite the vest really was!! Extremely breathable with the overall honeycomb style framing within the mesh. So for warmer runs this was a huge pro for the vest.
I love the placement of the pockets and the fact the vest has “4” pockets practically the same. I love this feature because the pack will be customized to each race with the max water options being 4, 550 flasks or just stuffing all the pockets with fuel and using a hand held!
When I put the vest on at first seemed tight/form fitting due to it’s minimal design. Once I ran in it, my view changed. Due to the lite frame nature of the vest and having it fit closer to the body this allowed for a great fit with the weight of a flask in the front pockets. I understood the reasoning behind a more form fitting vest.

The only CON I have with the vest is that I do not have monkey arms and can not reach the back two pockets if I were to place to backup bottles. Now this is just personal because I know some individuals may be able to do this no question’s asked. For me I have to take the vest off mid run and switch my empty flask with the full flask.

Personally I can look past this issue because number one I love the vest. However to some this may be frustrating. And for that I give the product a 4.8 out of 5 stars.

I am 5′ 11″, 198lbs with a 42″ chest. and the Large fits perfect for me.

  11. Giff

I got this vest thinking I would only use it as a lightweight/hot weather vest with soft bottles up front but was pleasantly surprised to discover how versatile this vest is. The hex mesh is comfortable, stays dry and conforms really well to my body. I didn’t plan on using the rear bottle pockets but have found that they ride really nicely, are easy to access and feel much more balanced near my center of gravity than soft bottles up front do on technical terrain. For really long self-supported efforts I will use all four bottle options and can go 20-30 miles with ample water and fuel. The minimal footprint keeps you cool on hot days, the black looks great and you can load up the pack with a hat, glove and layers for colder runs. This has quickly become my go-to pack for racing and training. Get one!

  12. Jen

I love this vest! It is very comfortable, no bounce and versatile. I can go more minimalist for shorter adventures or carry 4 bottles for longer ones. I have the violet and love the color. You can’t go wrong with this vest!

  13. Aaron

Great vest! It has so little bounce that you can weigh it down with everything you need for a long effort or strip it down for whatever you need on a shorter run. The mesh is light and breathable. I love having four bottles, as opposed to a bladder because I can keep track of my fluid intake and carry both water and tailwind.

My only, very small suggestion is that UltrAspire put rubber around the ends of the elastic pulls where you keep your trekking poles. Sometimes they clink on poles, which can range from distracting to annoying depending on how long you’ve been running. Other than that, it’s the best.

  14. David

Loving this vest to switch from hydration bladder to bottles. I use a soft bottle in the front and 2 of the Ultraflask 550 bottles in the back. Perfect for quick refilling and gauging hydration during an ultra. I put my phone in the other front pocket, store a jacket and light in back pocket, and nutrition in the side pockets. With all of that loaded up it’s still comfortable and lightweight.

My favorite vest! Perfect for short and long runs. Very light weight with lots of storage. No bounce or movement. No rubbing issues. My favorite part is all the pocket options. I live in Alaska so the front pocket is perfect size for my bear spray. So versatile!! Highly recommend.

  16. Becky Rogers

I have over a dozen packs and this ultraviolet Momentum is the pack I always reach for. The side pockets are perfect for easy and fast access to items such as nutrition or gloves. The sizing enables me to find a perfect fit. I love the extra pockets in the back for additional hydration or fuel. The storage capacity of the zipped compartment is ideal for racing up to 100k.

  17. Steve (verified owner)

Great vest! This is my first running vest. I have a Nathan hydration belt that couldn’t carry enough water for longer distance training runs in the summer hear and humidity. I’ve used it on just one 18 miler so far (2k elevation) and it was grand! No bounce, no chafing, and using two 550 flasks in the back pouches plus some bottles I stashed ahead of time on my route, it worked perfectly. I will admit it was mildly tricky to get the bottles back in, since they sit rather high on one’s back, but I developed a two handed technique that did the trick. I went with the snazzy purple because so much workout clothing is boring in color. I have not tried bottles in front yet. The vest did not feel hot in any way, though it was not a particularly warm day out.

I love it’s LIGHT WEIGHT and ability to carry lots of liquid without relying on a hard to clean reservoir. Get it. Do it!

  18. Front Ranger

This vest blows away the competition. Great for training or racing its build and features rival packs twice its price. Ultraspire for the win.

I’ve been a runner over 45 years, always used ‘fanny pack’ water bottle holders. They have become uncomfortable and I’m thrilled I found this vest! It holds all I need for my New Mexico high desert runs/hikes.

  20. Tim

The Momentum is a very versatile vest. Its range is 50k -100 milers. Very low profile race vest that can be worn under a wind or rain shell. The front pockets have the capacity to carry necessary calories on long runs or during races. I prefer not to carry flasks in the front (preference only) and instead on a waist belt or in the back of the Momentum. Either flasks or UltrAspire hybrid bottle. The one thing to note is the zipper in the back runs vertical. I would like to see a kangaroo type pouch in the back in order to stash gear on the fly vs having to take the vest off to store a shell. The side pocket do their job of carry gels, bar etc. i would like to see them to have a little more capacity or stretch. I have not had the chance to wear the vest in the summer so I can not comment on breath-ability or how hot it would be. I would have no issues using this vest in 100 milers for races in which there are not gear requirements like a UTMB. I have around 100 miles of trail time in the vest.

  21. Luke (verified owner)

Outperforms vests twice it’s price. A minimal efficient design. With thoughtfulness a runner can pack most of the carrying weight so that it is near the posterior hip, which as the Speed G O A T says, is the best place. Think about deadlifting…. versus a front squat… at any rate, this is my go to pack for long hauls. Love the ability to carry poles, and the black color way.

  22. J Welch

Spectacular vest! I have tried a number of vests, but this one appears to be the only one that seems to understand your shoulders and neck are not parallel to the ground. The angle at the shoulder line makes this thing fit very well and helps alleviate any pinch points on your neck. There are pockets all over, but the magnetic pocket my be my favorite. Items are quickly accessible and secure at the same time. I would put this vest up against any of the ones that sell for twice as much.

  23. Josh Hinojosa

I’ve finally found my go to race vest!! So pleased with the way it fits and the quality. Enough storage to carry what is needed for most any race, without being bulky. Exactly what I was looking for!!

  24. Karla

I’m training for my first 50k and learning to wear a hydration vest for the first time. After a great email conversation with customer service over sizing, they suggested I get the Momentum in a small. I am 5’3”, 115lbs and 36C. So I was kind of on the border with sizing. They were so spot-on with suggesting the small. Perfect fit and I totally forget it’s on. I am able to carry a soft flask up front, an extra in the back, my cellphone and plenty of goods. I dressed too warmly during one of my recent runs and the bungees in the back where trekking poles get stored were a perfect storage place for my outer layer (I did not need poles that day). This is a VERY comfortable vest. I have worn it with a jacket and I have worn it with a thin base layer. I have had zero chaffing or encountered any weird pressure points. I love this vest so much I took it hiking this past weekend instead of taking a pack. Granted it was only a hilly 5 miler, but this was an amazing vest for hiking. I initially ordered several other brands to choose from and they have all been returned except for this vest.

  25. Anne

This vest is by far my favorite vest! I also have the Alpha 3.0, but I wanted a vest that had the capability for two Ultraflask 550 bottles (one for water, one for Tailwind) in the back because I can’t stand bottles on/near my chest with running, and am tired of fussing around with filling up a bladder during training runs or races. The Momentum really nails it with a comfortable fit, lots of pockets, and easy accessibility to the back bottles.

Awesome vest. Use to be a UD guy until I forgot mine at home (on race day)and a buddy loaned me a momentum. It has been said that you never try new gear on race day but in this case, this vest not only performed awesomly, it was way better than my usual one so in a way it was a blessing that I forgot it. UltrAspire guy for life here

  27. Richie (verified owner)

Love this vest! I’ve been using mainly UD vests but never liked their material or the way they have their pockets set up. Bought this vest and tried it over the weekend running all types of trails and loved it. The fit is firm and bottles don’t bounce. The pockets hold all I need for a good long run and more, and are easily accessible. The material is light and durable. It just felt so comfortable that I barely even noticed I was wearing it. The price is so much better than any other comparable vests of other brands as well. Highly recommend this vest For any purpose

I have been on the constant search to find the best minimal vest for ultra running and the Momentum Race Vest fits the bill for me. I live the comfort of the bottles positioned in the back with the ability to carry extra bottles up front for the longer outings. Storage is aplenty with the large front pockets, side stash pockets and zippered back pocket. This vest also stays cool and breathes well on the hotter days.

  29. MIA

Of the handful of vests I’ve tried, this is by far my favorite. From day one, I forgot I was wearing it. Never any chafing issues, and the storage is perfect for long runs — or races with aid stations. I have run out of water with four bottles on especially long trail runs in the heat, and if I did those same runs again, would want two bottles up front plus a bladder. That said, my ONLY gripe with this vest is the pole placement: the low bungie cords just have the poles smacking you in the a$$ when stored. Super stoked that the new version of this version has remedied this, and I’ll be ordering one soon. My attempts to remedy the pole issue with vests from other companies have only made me long for some better version of this vest, and it looks like they might’ve nailed it. Longest run with this particular iteration was 66 miles (with aid stations), and again, it felt like I had nothing on: no chafing issues or anything.
