Dandelion –
The Zygos 5.0 has been my go-to ultra distance race vest for many seasons and I was excited to try the new Zygos 6.0. The steele blue colorway is perfect for hot climate races or outings with high sun exposure. The front pocket set up has been completely reconfigured from the 5.0, but still provides the user with many options to stow gear in easy to access compartments. The new format allows the runner to carry two 800ml flasks up front (or the 500ml flasks, just use the shock cord to hold up lower volume containers). I was concerned that carrying 800ml flasks up front would feel awkward or uncomfortable, but the new stretch fabric holds the bottles in well as they drain and prevents annoying bounce. Additional hydration can be stowed in the lower side pockets if needed for events that require long water carries (like Cocodona 250). The versatility afforded by the new pockets is excellent in this regard. Like the previous version, the 6.0 carries a high volume of gear in the back without bounce/chafe and cinches down when not quite packed to the brim. The more durable water resistant grid fabric on the main compartment is a welcome upgrade as well making this version better equipped to handle running through rain and snowstorms. I’m looking forward to using the Zygos 6.0 during the 2025 race season and beyond!
