    4.5 stars.
I literally went on a 36 hour trip upon receiving this pack. I was delighted with how everything I needed packed right into it without getting too creative. Pack fit me great, adjusted great and after 12 mile hike/jog to our camp site I was pleased. We did about quite a few more miles on the trip and the pack was flawless.
I had too minor issues with my pack. Top lid shock chord lock thing stopped working, no big deal and probably a fluke. The other issue was a little tear or separation of the material on the waist belt. I appreciate the dedication to the light weight use of materials, but I think that inside belt material might be too frail. I will put this pack to much much more use. Thanks

Anybody who knows me knows I’m a HUGE fan of UltrAspire. I was stoked for many many months waiting for the Epic that would have a bit more space than their ‘more than epic’ Fastpack (epic 25L / fastpack 18.29L). The Epic is the inline replacement for the Fastpack and is in itself a fantastic pack. The Epic is much lighter while allowing for more space which is pretty cool. Gone however is the Body Rhythm harness which allowed the pack to move much better with the body IMO. A traditional cinch top replaces the Fastpack’s zipper closure, but doesn’t really provide a tighter closure. There are ‘epic’ upgrades, like the Dual Max O2 Sternum™, rain fly cover, external ice ax/hiking pole loops with shock cord attachments, compression straps, and an upgraded harness layout. It fits and performs as well as any UltrAspire pack which is outright amazing. I do miss the side bottle pockets the Fastpack had because they provided great options for where/how I carry water/essentials (which I feel could have been adapted for the new ultraflask bottles while still expanding the capacity of the main compartment), the body rhythm part of the harness, and I miss the zipper opening that really allowed you to get deep into the pack, (which I feel could work easily with a drawstring closure as well to provide a smaller closure). The epic is by far one of the best performance packs out there and I don’t think anyone could go wrong owning one. It is lighter which is huge for many athletes. It easily stands up to most tasks you would demand of it. Having been spoiled by their Fastpack, I feel (personal opinion), that many of the features the Epic provides could have been introduced to the Fastpack making a truly epic pack, OR it could have been placed inline in addition to a slightly updated Fastpack as a larger race pack line option instead of as a replacement. Four stars only for how the Fastpack performs better for my needs than the Epic.

Barkley Marathons is quite the event. This year was my 7th time to tackle this beast and twenty years since my first attempt (1996). I banged out another 3-loops this year (roughly 78 miles and 40,000 feet of climbing) wearing an Epic pack from start to finish. Not only did this pack work flawlessly for the entire 42 hours, 5 minutes of racing, but it also carried me through the non-stop, 205-mile Tor des Géants race in the Italian Alps. This pack is designed with adventure in mind and will delight the wearer! Functional to no end!
