I have the Fitted Race Belt, the Mountain Racer, and now the Vertix. I love each one for their specific roles. But wow, the Vertix allow me to go even further without wearing a vest, although that would nearly infinitely extend my range.
I like to carry a 1 liter blottle in the back and slide a 500 hybrid flask into the front kangaroo pocket. I even found that I can lay another 500 bottle on top of the blottle when I really need extra fluid. That’s 2000 total! I could also place a jacket, gloves on top of the blottle if the pocket on the outside pocket on the blottle pocket is already full. So versatile!
When I don’t need my poles, I use the toggle buckles to carry them in the back. When secured, I forget they are there. No bounce at all. The side pockets are great to stash calories and I use the zippered pocket in front to hold my phone, chap stick etc. The skinny pocket behind the kangaroo pocket is great for little things like bandaids and meds etc.
I find that the medium size in the Vertix is actually a bit looser than the Mountain racer. That said, it fits very well and can be adjusted further by the adjustment elastics in front. I just don’t have to wiggle as much as the Mountain Racer to step into it and pull it into place.
I am loving the versatility of this pack. It’s especially nice to not have anything on my back when the heat and humidity is relentless.
